a sneak peak at ETS 09

I've never heard of this term, but was fascinated by how many times I heard it used in an argument found HERE. Unless you frequent biblical studies blogs, this probably won't be too interesting, but skip to the last few arguments by the host of the blog, Roger.

Despite his repetitious argument that James McGrath, a professor of religion at Butler University, is a brinker who brinks like none other, I still have no clue what this term means nor have I ever heard it used on the interwebs.

I got bored on lunch break and decided, in honor of this argument, to suggest a potential flyer for next year's ETS.

While this isn't really that funny. I spent my entire lunch break making this on Microsoft Paint and therefore felt the need to justify that time by posting my proposed advertisement here.

I'm afraid this is just unacceptable. Clearly it ought to be "Thou shalt not brink"! :)

hey brinky, don't bring that ESV vs TNIV argument to my neck of the woods

:)

Actually, that's not bad, especially since you pulled it off in Paint. If other plans don't work out, you might consider a career in graphic design.

Yes, the term is unfamiliar to most people, as indeed is the behaviour. Thankfully there are few posters online sufficiently cynical and nasty to do it.

A full outline of the process of brinking can be found in the comment to the post.

I must admit that I hadn't expected to encounter such behaviour on my blog. Did you know that he posted essentially the same "comment" EIGHT times?!

Not one of them, so far as I read them, addressed my post or the replies that I initially made.

Instead he just tried to bulldoze the argument by incessant reiteration and/or brinking.

Fortunately for me I've met scum online before, and know the tricks. Pity really; I quite liked his blog.

i like James and don't know him to act like that, not to discredit your claims. some arguments just don't end up being fruitful for either side, apparently that was an example.

however, i am aware how religious arguments can end up over the internet. my post on socialism and the book of amos brought some of that my way, despite my attempts to avoid.

good luck with your blog site and have a great day.
